International Conference on "Combating Transnational Organized Crimes" held in Antalya by the General Prosecution Office of the Supreme Court of Appeal
International Conference on "Combating Transnational Organized Crimes" was held between 9-12 June 2021 in Antalya within the scope of our country’s 2020-2021 Chairmanship Term for the Southeast European Cooperation Process. Senior level delegations consisting of Mr. Olsian Cela, General Prosecutor of the Republic of Albania, Mrs. Pranvera Pustina, Prosecutor, Director of Cabinet at the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Arben Kraja, Head of Special Prosecutors Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, Ms. Gordana Tadić, Chief Prosecutor of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Mr. Ćazim Hasanspahić, Prosecutor, Head of Terrorism Section at the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ms. Aleksandra Golijanin, Senior Advisor of the Chief Prosecutor, Mr. Borislav Bobi Sarafov, Deputy Prosecutor General of Bulgaria, Mr. Tsvetomir Tsvetkov Yosifov, Head of International Department at Supreme Cassation Prosecutor`s Office of Bulgaria, Mr. Cladco Alexandru, Prosecutor at the General Prosecutor`s Office of the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Raileanu Dumitru, Prosecutor at the Prosecution Office on Fighting Organized Crime and Special Causes, Ms. Pâțu Oana Daniela, Acting Chief Prosecutor at the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism of the Prosecutor’s Office Attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice of Romania, Ms. Spinu Nadina-Magdalena, Chief Prosecutor of the Service of International Judicial Cooperation, International Relations and Programs, Mr. Rareș - Petru Stan, Prosecutor at the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism attended the Conference.
During the Conference, legal regulations on combating transnational crimes, challenges faced in practice and solutions were evaluated by emphasizing the importance of developing distinctive cooperation mechanisms on combating transnational crimes among the prosecutors of the Southeast Europe countries.
In his opening speech, Mr. Bekir Şahin, General Prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Appeal, stated that effective fight against transnational organized crimes can only be achieved through strong and rapid cooperation between countries and prosecution authorities; in order to be successful in the fight against criminal organizations, it is necessary to be one step ahead of them and to ensure international information sharing and cooperation in the fastest way.
Mr. Şahin made a presentation on “the Role and Importance of Cryptocurrencies in the Fight Against Crime” in the Second Session of the Conference. In his presentation, Mr. Şahin stated that it is inevitable for the public power, namely the investigative authorities, to be one step ahead in order to be strong in the fight against criminals and to prevent crime with special emphasis on money laundering and terrorist financing through cryptocurrencies in terms of its consequences, which is a new concept for the legal systems of countries. Also, Mr. Şahin has underlined that necessary moves should be made considering regional and international regulations regarding cryptocurrencies, barriers to international cooperation should be removed and information sharing should not be carried out ungenerously in order to carry out an effective fight against crime.
